Painting collaged in Photoshop |
Having scanned a lot of my pieces onto my computer I decided to play around in photoshop with some simple collages. I took a scan from some paper I had bought in a Charity shop for it's interesting stains and foxing to use as a background. I felt it was somewhat relevant as I am trying to depict a science fiction narrative using old and outdated technology and items.
I took one of my paintings and multiplied the layer with a gradient. This in effect darkens the black, giving it a more dramatic look. I removed all of the white from the image so the colour of the sky would like like it was reflecting in the glass windows of the building.
I enjoy the piece as it is, this particular picture was actually a photograph and I like the way you can still see the light reflecting off the wet paint. This may have been a happy accident, but something I will consider if I decided to take this image further.

Collage experiment 2 |
My second experiment was merely a collage assembled with one of my sketches of the mangle onto the same paper. The image itself is ambiguous, but I think it has an industrial feel to it. I was interested to see what it would look like if I left some of the white inside the drawing. I think the image is interesting, but I am unlikely to pursue this any further for the time being as I don't think it really reflects the mood of the piece aptly.
